Antipsychotic drugs and risk of venous thromboembolism: nested case-control study

The purpose of this activity is to review the risk of developing venous thromboembolism in patients who have been prescribed antipsychotic drugs.

Learning outcomes

1) Name the types of data contained in the QResearch database and appraise the database’s reliability compared with other databases

2) Appraise the association between taking an antipsychotic and a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism

3) Recognise the relation between timing of antipsychotic prescription and the risk of venous thromboembolism

4) Identify the limitations of the study design in answering the clinical question.
