Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: long term management
Work through interactive patient cases to update your knowledge of the role and relative value of drug and non-drug therapies in controlling symptoms and improving outcomes in COPD.
After completing this module, you should:
- Know that smoking cessation is a cost effective treatment for patients with COPD
- Understand the role of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with COPD
- Know the indications for long term oxygen therapy in patients with COPD
- Understand the role and cost effectiveness of drug and non-drug therapies in patients with COPD.
Please note: The 2017 update of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guideline for COPD included some important changes for chronic management. We are in the course of updating this module in line with the guidance, but please bear in mind that it does not yet incorporate all of the new GOLD recommendations.
