Management of sickle cell disease in the community

The purpose of this activity is to review the epidemiology, cause, presenting features in childhood, and the acute and long complications of sickle cell disease.

Learning outcomes

1) Review the epidemiology of sickle cell disease;

2) Enable clinicians to understand what causes sickle cell disease;

3) Demonstrate the presenting features of sickle cell disease;

4) Describe the acute complications of sickle cell disease;

5) Describe the chronic complications of sickle cell disease.
