It's your first Medical On Call and you are bleeped...
"Hi, it's Gemma, staff nurse on ward two. I'm calling about a patient with chest pain..."
Being asked to review a patient who has developed chest pain is a relatively common request, and can be a daunting experience at first. The role of a junior doctor is to carry out a targeted, rapid initial assessment looking for a serious cause of the chest pain. If a serious cause such as myocardial infarction is suspected, you will need to be able to start appropriate initial management and seek early senior help. Find out how with our new module You've been bleeped: Chest Pain, in association with Student BMJ.
