Palliative care in oncology

This module describes the principles and practice of palliative care and its application in clinical practice.

Learning outcomes

After reading this module, you will be able to:

  • Judiciously use available anti-cancer therapy with an intent to:
    • Control symptoms
    • Maintain function so that patients can continue to do the things they like to do
  • Manage emergencies in palliative medicine such as:
    • Spinal cord compression
    • Superior vena cava obstruction
    • Severe pain
    • Haemorrhage.
