You've been bleeped: Chest pain, in association with Student BMJ

This module offers practical advice for newly qualified doctors and senior medical students on managing patients with chest pain. It describes a systematic approach to thinking about chest pain, offering advice on how to assess and manage patients in an acute situation, when to seek help from a senior, and the most important points to include in these discussions, with particular reference to the diagnoses of STEMI and NSTEMI.

Learning outcomes

After completing this module, you should feel more confident in your ability to:

  • Carry out a rapid and targeted initial assessment of a patient with chest pain
  • Identify patients needing urgent senior review at an early stage
  • Initiate early management for patients with acute coronary syndromes in a way that is appropriate to your level of training and experience
  • Refer patients with suspected acute coronary syndromes to your seniors in cardiology.
