Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: long term management

Learning outcomes

After completing this module, you should:

  • Know that smoking cessation is a cost effective treatment for patients with COPD
  • Understand the role of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with COPD
  • Know the indications for long term oxygen therapy in patients with COPD
  • Understand the role and cost effectiveness of drug and non-drug therapies in patients with COPD.

Please note: NICE published new guidance NG115 on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in over 16s: diagnosis and management in December 2018. We are in the course of updating this module in line with the guidance but please bear in mind that it does not yet incorporate the new NICE recommendations.
