Learning outcomes

After completing this module, you should:

  • Know how best to support smoking cessation in patients with COPD
  • Understand the role of pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with COPD
  • Know the indications for long term oxygen therapy in patients with COPD
  • Understand the role and cost effectiveness of drug and non-drug therapies in patients with COPD.

Alert! This module has not been updated to include specific information on COVID-19. NICE has released rapid guideline NG168 to maximise the safety of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease during the COVID-19 pandemic: "COVID-19 rapid guideline: community-based care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)". This module does not yet incorporate this guideline.
