Guideline focus: gastro-oesophageal reflux disease in infants, children, and young people (NICE)

Practical implications for GPs of NICE guideline NG1, "Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease in children and young people: diagnosis and management," including when to start treatment with acid suppressing drugs, and when to refer children to secondary care for further investigation.

Learning outcomes

After completing this module you should:

  • Understand how to diagnose gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) in children
  • Know the “red flag” symptoms that should prompt referral to secondary care
  • Recognise the role of breastfeeding assessments in management
  • Know when to start treatment with acid suppressing drugs.
